Senior Indoor Activities
When the weather isn’t cooperating, or our loved ones are homebound, there are activities for seniors that can help with their well-being. Depression is a risk factor for seniors, and activities that help them socialize and feel connected to others can make a big difference in their quality of life.
Knitting/Crocheting Group – Not only is knitting and crocheting proven to boost happiness, knitters feel great pride in their handiwork which can increase confidence. Organize a weekly knitting club and provide monthly transportation to a nearby yarn or craft store.
Saturday Afternoon Trivia Game – Plan an afternoon or early evening game activity like Trivia where seniors can socialize with a few others and test their knowledge of past events. You can create your own questions and answers or use one of the popular Trivia Games.
Start a Book Club – Stay comfortable and relaxed on your couch while transporting somewhere else with your favourite book. The best part is discussing what you’ve read with friends. Get a group to agree on a book to read and set a time to discuss it together. It’s a win-win — everyone gets new book suggestions, and you all get to keep in touch. Take your book outside with a cold glass of lemonade for a perfect senior activity for August.
