A Friendly Voice is a free, confidential “warm line” for older adults aged 55 and above living in Ontario. It is  not a crisis line. It’s a welcoming space where seniors can freely connect with a caring individual without expectations or judgment.

Whether you or someone you know is struggling with loneliness or simply looking to stay socially healthy and add some connection to your routine, A Friendly Voice lends an empathetic ear and  delightful conversations.

Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington supports persons living with dementia and their families. Caring for an individual with Alzheimer’s or related dementia can be challenging.

Whether you want to learn more about the programs and services we offer or find dementia-related information specific to your needs, we have the education and resources to help you.

The Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington offers a variety of services to support people living with dementia and their care partners.

Companionship, such as playing cards and other activities, gives seniors in a retirement home a positive feeling that they are not alone.

The Alzheimer’s Day Program is a social club aimed to support adults who are coping with the specific effects of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, and want to stay in the community, in their own homes, or living with their families.

The program has goal-based activities and client-centered support. Participants can take part in a range of arts, cultural, gardening, cooking, and exercise activities focusing on the unique needs and abilities of each person. The group has access to a beautiful courtyard garden that is safe and secure.

Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help make the cost of dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents. An application must be submitted, and applications are only open to Canadian citizens aged 65 and older, or adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.

Eligibility requirements include: 

  1. You don’t have access to dental insurance 
  2. Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 
  3. You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes 
  4. You filed your tax return for the previous year

Cancer Care Ontario

Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program

The Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program oversees the quality and delivery of cancer services for the areas of Waterloo Region, Wellington County and the southern portion of Grey County. The WWRCP aims to deliver timely care across the cancer care continuum (from prevention & screening to end of life care).  

This is a good site to help understand the services, where they are offered, and to help with coordination of yours or your loved one’s care.

Age Friendly programs, services, news and information for Kitchener older adults! Programs run through Seniors Active Living Centres and include: Downtown Community Centre, Rockway Seniors Centre, Breithaupt Seniors Centre – with indoor pool.

City of Waterloo – Senior Services

Information on seniors programming, home support services and ageing in Waterloo. Programs run through Seniors Active Living Centres and include: Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex – with indoor pool, skating rink, and indoor track, Community Pavilion – with drop in leisure activities.

City of Cambridge – Senior Services

Offering older adults in the community health services, volunteer programs, and a wide range of recreation programs at Seniors Active Living Centres and include: Allan Reuter Centre, David Durward Centre, Ted Wake Centre, Saint Luke’s Place, Fairview Mennonite Home, Langs CHC.

Health Connect Ontario

 

Run by the Government of Ontario, this is a free, secure confidential service that helps you get health advice from a registered nurse, find health services or get information – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You can find a doctor or health service, check your symptoms, get health advice, or search the medical library to learn more about medical terms and conditions.

Available in English and French, with translation support offered in other languages.

Ontario Health atHome and Community Care Support Services 

(formerly known as the LHIN or CCAC)

If you require health care or personal support in your home,  need assistance getting back on track after a hospital stay, illness or injury, or if you have complex or chronic health conditions, they can help get you the OHIP funded care you need.

Care Coordinators work with you to determine the right care and health supports. These include: Care coordination, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Nutritional counselling, Speech therapy, Social work, Personal support, Medical supplies and equipment.
