response
As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues, and with Waterloo Region declaring a state of emergency, we want to ensure that our clients and their families understand our infection control approaches which are designed to ensure the safety of our clients and our employees.
The Promyse Home Care team continues to monitor the situation on a daily basis, and ensuring our protocols are in compliance with the latest information and direction coming from the Public Health Department, Home Care Ontario Association and global health authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO). These protocols include guidance for preventing the spread of illness, the foremost being handwashing, staying home when sick and following precautions when working with clients who are sick.
Do your caregivers wear masks
- As recommended by the Ontario Ministry of Health, all of our staff wear procedure masks during their shifts
What happens if my parent requires care, and but has a respiratory illness
- Our staff are able to provide care for ill patients as always. If there are any signs of respiratory illness (COVID-19 or other), or a potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 (for example – visit to emergency, discharge from hospital, exposure to a family member who has travelled out of country with the past 14 days), we ask that our office be notified immediately at 519-208-2000. This allows us to ensure our staff has the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety.
How do you ensure your staff don’t pose a risk
- We are following the recommendations of Home Care Ontario and the Public Health Department to minimize the risk. Specifically,
- Staff with even the slightest respiratory symptoms (cough, etc) are required to be off work for 14 days from start of symptoms to ensure no further symptoms develop.
- Staff are instructed to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds on arrival to ensure they are not carrying anything into the home.
Health Canada lists the following everyday actions that can be taken to reduce exposure to the virus and protect your health, including the following:
- wash your hands often with soap and water (for at least 20 seconds) or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- sneeze and cough into your sleeve
- avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
- keep surfaces clean and disinfected
- avoid contact with people who are sick
- stay home if you are sick
- practice social distancing for as long as required by public health
